BEYOND RED LIGHT
A GUIDE TO LED LIGHT COLORS & YOUR SKIN
When we think of light therapy, red light usually gets all the attention.
And for good reason. Red light has become one of our favorite rituals for supporting healthy, radiant skin... but it isn’t the only color of light with something beautiful to offer.
Different wavelengths of light interact with the skin in different ways, which means your LED ritual can shift depending on what your skin is asking for that day.
Maybe you’re craving brightness. Maybe your skin feels a little dull or tired. Maybe you’re focusing on firmness, breakouts, or simply creating ten quiet minutes to come back to yourself.
Think of it less like choosing the “perfect” setting and more like learning the language of your skin.
Red Light: Restore + Renew
Red is the heart of light therapy. It’s the wavelength we reach for when the intention is rejuvenation, firmness and supporting the skin’s natural renewal process. Red light is commonly used to support collagen and elastin production, helping skin appear smoother, plumper and more luminous over time.
But beyond the science, there’s something about sitting beneath that warm red glow that feels deeply restorative. A few minutes where you don’t have to answer a message, finish a task or take care of anyone else.
Just light. Breath. Stillness.
We love red light as both a skincare ritual and a reminder that beauty doesn’t always have to come from doing more. Sometimes it comes from giving the body the right environment to restore itself.
Reach for red when your focus is: firmness, fine lines, elasticity, skin renewal + overall radiance.
Near-Infrared: The Light You Can’t See
Near-infrared light is a little different. Unlike the other colors, it isn’t visible to the human eye, but it can penetrate more deeply into the tissue than visible red light.
That’s why you’ll often see red and near-infrared paired together in light therapy.
Our Theia Full Face Mask combines 660nm red light with 850nm near-infrared light, creating a deeper full-face ritual designed for rejuvenation and renewal.
You may not be able to see the near-infrared light working, but sometimes the most powerful things are happening beneath the surface anyway.
Orange + Yellow Light: Illuminate
There are days when your skin simply looks… tired. Travel, stress, too little sleep, hormones, long days — life shows up on our skin. Orange and yellow-toned light are often incorporated into LED routines focused on radiance and smoothing the appearance of the complexion.
Think of this as your golden-hour setting. The one you reach for when you want your skin to look fresh, rested and illuminated.
Our Aurora Mask's Brightening and Smoothing modes pair orange light with red light, combining the glow-focused qualities of orange with the restorative benefits of red.
Perfect before getting ready for dinner, before an event, or simply when you want to bring a little warmth back into your complexion.
Reach for orange + red when your focus is: glow, dull-looking skin, smoothing + radiance.
Green Light: Balance
Green feels like balance — both energetically and within our skincare rituals.
Green LED light is commonly incorporated into routines focused on the appearance of uneven skin tone and discoloration.
If your skin feels like it needs less stimulation and more harmony, green can be a beautiful option to explore.
Our Theia Mask includes a 525nm green light setting, allowing you to choose your light according to your skin’s needs instead of following the exact same ritual every day. Because your skin changes. With the seasons. With your cycle. With stress. With travel. With your environment. Your skincare ritual can change with it.
Blue Light: Clarify
Blue light is most commonly associated with blemish-prone skin.
Certain wavelengths of blue light are used in skincare because of their interaction with acne-associated bacteria at the surface of the skin. It’s often paired with red light, creating a ritual that focuses both on blemishes and the appearance of calm, healthy-looking skin.
Our Aurora Acne Mode combines blue + red light for exactly this reason.
Rather than approaching breakouts from a place of frustration or fighting against your skin, we love the idea of treating these moments as information.
Your skin is communicating. Listen first. Then support it.
Reach for blue + red when your focus is: blemish-prone skin + maintaining a clear-looking complexion.
So… Which Light Should You Choose?
There doesn't need to be a complicated formula. Start by looking at your skin.
How does it feel today?
If you're focusing on firmness + rejuvenation, choose red.
If you're craving brightness + glow, try orange with red.
If you're focusing on the appearance of uneven tone, explore green.
If you're experiencing breakouts, blue + red may be the ritual your skin is asking for.
And some days you might simply choose the color you feel drawn toward.
We believe skincare can hold both science and intuition. You can understand wavelengths, collagen and light technology while still allowing your beauty ritual to feel sacred. The two don't have to exist separately.
Your Light Ritual
Before you begin, cleanse your skin, put your phone away and give yourself ten quiet minutes.
Maybe you make tea. Maybe you mist your skin with rose water beforehand. Maybe you put on a meditation, lie down and close your eyes. Or maybe you do absolutely nothing.
There is luxury in creating space where nothing is required of you.
That is what LIGHT has always been about. Not adding another complicated step to your routine. But creating small rituals that help you slow down, reconnect and care for yourself — while supporting the skin you're already in.
Illuminate from within. with so much love, The Light Team
